Overview |
 |
| Driven by the constant growth of traffic across their optical networks, service providers were the first to adopt CWDM and DWDM technology. The ability to use multiple wavelengths across the same fiber link enabled them to increase network capacity and keep pace with demand. Now with the EKINOPS 360, the next generation, optical transport platform, service providers can take the benefits of WDM one step further... |
| The Ekinops 360 is a carrier class optical transport platform designed for Metro, Regional and Long haul CWDM and DWDM networks. It can aggregate or transport any ethernet, Fibre Channel, Sonnet or SDH client protocol from 100Mb to 10G. |
| |
Product Description |
| |
The Ekinops 360 platform is NEBS Level 3 compliant, rack-mountable and fully managed. It supports 40 DWDM channels at 10Gbs and designed to grow to 80 channels. It consists of a 6RU chassis for high density applications and a compact 2RC chassis for low density applications. It's modular and offers unmatched density with support of up to 50G in a 2 RU shelf and 190G in a 6RU shelf. |

Aggregation
The Ekinops 360 includes a set of Muxponders capable of aggregating multiple inputs over one wavelength at wire speed. This includes aggregation of multiple 100Mb, GbE, Fibre Channel 1G/ 2G, OC-3/12/48 and STM-1/4/16 onto a 10G ITU-T G.709 or OC-192 line rate. Aggregation reduces the number of wavelengths in the network and lowers the overall cost of DWDM and CWDM networks by 30%-50%.
Multiple client inputs are encapsulated together with a digital wrapper, which also contains a DCC and optional Forward Error Correction (FEC). FEC is used to correct errors in long-haul transport applications.
Aggregation modules utilize pluggable SFP client interfaces allowing initial deployment with a small number of interfaces and then incrementally adding SFPs to support more customers on the same wavelength without service interruption and at a minimal added cost. |
| |

Carrier-Grade Reliability & Availabillity
The Ekinops 360 is a carrier-grade platform that offers customers maximum reliability and availability. The Chassis included redundant power supplies and fans. Each service module is hot swappable and is independent for other modules in the chassis. Service traffic is kept on the transponder and is not carried across a backplane, which eliminates any backplane speed limitations. In addition, once a system is configured it is fully operational even in the event of a management card failure. |

Chassis |
| |
The C200 is a 2RU, 19" modular chassis. It can hold 5 standard-size modules in addition to a pluggable management card. The C600 is a 6RU, 19" modular chassis that can hold 19 standard-size modules in addition to the management card. Both chassis are 600mm wide and 300mm deep and are ETSI compliant.
Modules and power supplies are hot swappable. These carrier class chassis offer dual redundant and load sharing DC and AC power supplies with removable fans and dust filter. AC power option is available as a plug-in module in the C200 or externally for the C200 and C600. |
Management
The Ekinops 360 can be managed through SNMP or Ekinops Manager (EEM), which includes CLI and Ekinops jave-based GUI Terminal. The management card has two Ethernet ports and one local RS232 port and is hot swappable. Managing the Ekinops 360 platform can also be done by CLI either through the local RS232 port or remotely through an SSH connection. For a complete Network Management, Ekinops offers the SNMPc application that provides a full overview of the network. Management as well as traps and alarms can also be accessed through any standard SNMP NMS.
Data Communications Channel
Ekinops aggregation modules include an embedded Data Communications Channel (DCC) for remote monitoring and management. Management information is embedded and transported within the client data eliminating the need for allocating a special wavelength as with an Optical Supervisory Channel (OSC).
OTX Optical Interface
OTX is an optical interface designed by Ekinops for extended link distances. It is mounted on the module and can not be unplugged. It has LC connector and provides the same management information as XFPs. OTX interfaces can reach up to 250km without the need for mid-span (in-line) amplification or regeneration and only with the use of booster, preamps and Raman amplifiers. OTX can be ordered with 1550nm or ITU DWDM wavelengths. |
